I would recommend this car as a good beginning RWD car. Good grip, fairly modest power at low RPM. Once you get the hang of it at lower power, then you can dabble into the VTEC and get more and more comfortable with it.
I guarantee he'll dabble in VTEC on the first drive.

Thus, it is not a beginner car. It falls squarely in the ADVANCED category. While not as oversteer-happy as a 70s 911, it is one of the most oversteer-happy today.

If your dad truly loves having you around, he should reconsider. Every 16 year old says they have discipline, but 99% truly do not. We can't give the benefit of the doubt here (even though you MIGHT be disciplined, odds say a resounding NO).

I would look into the Mazdaspeed miata or the Solstice.

Seriously, you're 16 - you have no business being anywhere near an S2000 in my opinion. I don't need my insurance rates going up because you ran off a cliff or something. You've got a perfectly fine RSX, that's a much nicer car then most 16 year olds are driving these days.

But to answer your question, the trade in according to Kelley Blue Book on your car with 11k miles in excellent condition is $15,550. However, you'll never get 'excellent' condition from a dealer, you'll almost always get "Good" which brings it down to $14,675 for a trade-in.
Some one sounds jelouse that 16 year old will have the same car as him.... If he wants the car let him get it. He will be 16 years old with a great car and gonna get alot of pussy in it. Be happy for some one!

How did I know this would come up? Assume all you'd like, jealousy has nothing to do with this. He is 16, do you recall being 16 and having the best judgement in the world? I think not. This is not a car for a new driver; but I'm sure he'll find that out on his own time, meanwhile I'll enjoy the increase in my premium....

Hi, Last night my dad and i were discussing that how it would be nice for me to drive a convertible. He was considering to get the BMW z3. We were on the road and we saw one and damn that shit was nasty. So ugly. So i told him about the s2k. I am 16 btw. He wants me to trade in my car for so long b/c he doesnt really like the rsx-s so i was like if you let me trade in my car for an s2k ill do it. So we decided to test drive one today. My question is that how muuch will we lose money b/c my dad and i dont really care unless we get the car but my mom differs.

I have an 02 rsx type-s with 11k milage

how much do you think the trade in value would be with a new or used one and how much money do you think we'll lose. And the insurance of course.

16 is definitely too young for this car. I was 18 when I got my first S2000. It was still quite overwhelming back then, as I had only done approx. 40,000 miles before that.

This reminds me of my old MR2 board. Every week there was a thread from some kid saying "Wrecked my Car, PICS" and some story about "I was doing 120 yo and some guy pulled out in front of me. It would have been worse if I were not such a great driver."

There were lots of older (meaning anyone over about 25) guys that were upset these now out of production cars were getting totaled by morons. Anywho whenever someone kid would post "I am sixteen and do you think an MR2 turbo would be a good car for me?" about a dozen peole would post "No!"

I would always laugh at that............

By the way, I crashed my four banger prelude driving like a douche when I was 16 and that was a pefectly safe car. I would have probaly killed half a dozen people in an S2000 at that age.

You guys aren't the only ones who have their doubts. My wife and I are going to look at a low mileage 02 Sebring tonight that we are very likely going to bring home. She has never owned a manual OR rwd, so guess who will be driving the S2K for the week until we can find time on the weekend to do some parking lot practice?
To the 16 year old - hey brother I am seriously stoked for you. An S2K is a sweet ride. I can't imagine having one at 16, but I'm an old guy now (*cough*wheeze*).

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE at least get to your nearest real kart school (not the silly lawnmower engine putt-putt stuff at the Family Fun Center) and take a full day course. It will be the best 3-6 hundred bucks your family will ever invest and it will give you the basic skills and understanding to save your hide at least a few times.
