trading 02 rsx-s low mileage for s2k
Hi, Last night my dad and i were discussing that how it would be nice for me to drive a convertible. He was considering to get the BMW z3. We were on the road and we saw one and damn that shit was nasty. So ugly. So i told him about the s2k. I am 16 btw. He wants me to trade in my car for so long b/c he doesnt really like the rsx-s so i was like if you let me trade in my car for an s2k ill do it. So we decided to test drive one today. My question is that how muuch will we lose money b/c my dad and i dont really care unless we get the car but my mom differs.
I have an 02 rsx type-s with 11k milage
how much do you think the trade in value would be with a new or used one and how much money do you think we'll lose. And the insurance of course.

Keep the RSX and look forward to the S2000 in a couple of years.
You're going to get absolutely slaughtered on insurance at 16 with the S2000. It is one of the most expensive two-door cars to insure on the entire market. Aside from this, I'm sorry to say, you'll more than likely have some kind of mishap in it soon after your purchase because many drivers, especially the younger one's, seem to have extreme difficulty making the switch from FWD to RWD vehicles.

What he said. If you dont want to kill yourself I have one word, "Miata". Easier car for a beginner, and if you want to be into the modification craze, you can put a jackson supercharger on it and still have it be easier to handle than this car.

I do not agree that this is a harder car to drive than the miata. Yes, it has more HP, but as long as you stay below VTEC engagement, it handles almost JUST like a Miata (1st edition, at least). This car is more reliable than the Mazda and has more grip.
I would recommend this car as a good beginning RWD car. Good grip, fairly modest power at low RPM. Once you get the hang of it at lower power, then you can dabble into the VTEC and get more and more comfortable with it.
This car is the easiest I have ever had to drive fast. Just be careful.

I would much rather have a 16 year old behind the wheel of an fbody than an S2000. My Z28 never suffered from snap oversteer and was nowhere near as unpredictable as the S.

I'm 25 and single, and my S2000 costs me $94 a month full coverage 500/100 deductibles. For the same coverage on an 03 accord it was $90 a month. And an 03 Civic EX was $86 a month.

Then what's the point of owning the S2000? that's like saying an LS1 is as good asan RSX as long as you shift at 3000rpm.
This car is NOT a good beginner RWD car. I've owned close to 14 cars so far in my lifetime, and this car is NOT a beginner car by any means. ESPECIALLY for an inexperienced 16 year old driver.
To the original poster, if you get this car, I gaurantee you will get in an accident with it.

Seriously, you're 16 - you have no business being anywhere near an S2000 in my opinion. I don't need my insurance rates going up because you ran off a cliff or something. You've got a perfectly fine RSX, that's a much nicer car then most 16 year olds are driving these days.
But to answer your question, the trade in according to Kelley Blue Book on your car with 11k miles in excellent condition is $15,550. However, you'll never get 'excellent' condition from a dealer, you'll almost always get "Good" which brings it down to $14,675 for a trade-in.
