Default Trade-in 2000 for 2007

After 7 years of ownership, this afternoon I trade-in my 2000 Silver/Red with 39,000 miles & Koni shocks for a brand new 2007 Red/Black.

The dealer gave me $14,000 for trade-in so it reduces the tax on the new one.
It is almost like I am getting $15,000.

On the way home (long 60 miles driving), I noticed a few differences:
1) Suspension on 2007 is more isolated ; comfort focus. Handling is just as confidence inspiring just less "feel" of the road. I like it , may be because I am 7 years older now.

2) 2007 shifting "feels" longer throw than my previous 2000. Not sure why.

3) 2007 is much more torquey feeling at 6th gear. I rarely used 6th gear in my 2000 but since this is a new 2007, I stayed in 6th a lot for break-in period.

4) Engine sound is much more muted on 2007 but the Exhaust "hum" is louder than 2000. Overall, 2007 is a quieter interior with better stereo than 2000.

Prior to this sudden decision, I was test driving a 2005 used Lotus Elise which cost about the same as new 2007 S2k. I liked the go-kart feel on Elise but the interior quality and rattles turns me off so I went to Honda Dealer instead.

you didn't want to wait for the '08s? i went to vtec.net and read a review about the comparisons between the cr, 07 s2ks, and 08 s2ks. the reviewer said there were some performance differences between the 07 and 08. i mean, nothing huge or anything.

ah well, the car is already sitting in your garage. hope you enjoy the ride.

You are right !

New for 2008, the S2000 has revised spring and damper tuning that subtly influences steering feel and high speed vehicle behavior. Inside, the minor changes include revised instrument panel meters and minor revisions to the seat design. Also, a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) has been added.

I got a good deal anyway...it is not fun waiting and not knowing how much '08 will cost.

I feel you same as you, I just got my 2007 too, and also was deciding if I should wait for the 08. At the end, I think I will not get as good of a deal of I get the 2008, since it just came out, and I like 2007 rims and seats, I got the GPW with red and blk btw, But of course, if the 2008 cost the same as what I got for the 2007, I will take the 2008, because its newer, TPMS, and some minor revisions, well newer mostly. I am happy that I got the 2007 tho. Enjoy the car.

I think the shift knob on the 2007 vs the 2000 makes you think the throws a longer because of the way you wrap your fingers around it.

As for the comment about the suspension isolating you more, I agree. It's advantage is soaking up bumps MUCH BETTER, it's less of a punishment to go over bumps.

I love it when people think an AP2 is like a Buick or something. Compared to what? Aside from a Lotus Elise, they are very few affordable cars like the S2000 that are as extreme!
