Actually the manual(well mine anyway) says explicitly not to use the tow hook to tow on an incline. It's only supposed to be used for flat level ground towing of short distances.

Yeah, my MY00 manual only mentions what you can do with the tow hook (as I quoted earlier), and does not say anything about what you can't do with it. I just wish I had a little heads up before this morning. Glad to see the later model manuals make a note of it.
