Touch-up paint :(

The reason it's flat is because Spa yellow pearl is a 2 stage paint. If you go to h and a accessories you'll find that the spa touch up paint is the most expensive for this reason. Buy yourself one of the Spa paint pens from there. http://www.handaacessories.com
It's called the chipmender brand touch up paint pen. Spa is twice as expensive as the other colors.

I think afwjustin is right, backman.
But, just to be certain, are you sure you're using Spa and not Rio touchup? Rio would likely be more readily available at the dealer, so that's why I'm asking. I think both are pearls though, so I'm not sure it'd matter.

Does it have a paint code on the bottle? Spa is Y-52P
I guess if it says Spa, it's probably Spa.

I am guessing there was a mislabel. Perhaps my car does require Rio which is Y52P (without the dash, right?)
Anyway, there was a chip just under my headlight and it's about an inch in diameter. I shook the bottle for a few minutes hard, opened it up, applied (with the brush) a steady, straight coat of the paint over the chipped area. Some of the run-off I had to evenly swipe to get it flat with the brush. But after drying, the color is DEFINITELY darker than the original paint.
I didn't like, apply it wrong, did I? Even if I had brushed a small amount of the paint over a good portion of original paint, it should've still blended in correctly. Yes?

Uh, no sorry... Don't get confused. I don't know the paint code for Rio, but I'm sure Y-52P and Y52P are the same thing. Rio would have a different code.
Maybe you're just dealing with some sun bleaching. I.e., 5 years may have changed the color of the paint a bit.
Touch-up paint doesn't blend... It's just it's own color. I suggest you just wait a while and put some synthetic polish on it in a few weeks. You may find it looks a little better.

It's interesting that the Spa Yellow Pearl color is the only S2000 paint color not available from Autovisuals; their Autosharp paint pens are high quality and have been near perfect color matches for our cars the last five years.

You will never get touch up to match on any car with metallic or pearl. When you glob it on there with a brush/pen the metallic and pearl lays differently, thats why it looks like a different color. The only colors you can match touch up good on are non-metallic colors such a straight black or white (non-pearl). You didn't get a mislabeled bottle, it's just the nature of automotive paint.
