The only thing your insurance company is responsible for is the frame and fabric top, which should run about $2000ish. However, the more I think about this, the more I'm convinced that these are self-inflected wounds.

Wouldn't it be awful if in the end, while this guy goes free you get charged with insurance fraud, and/or charged for not turning this guy in
The problem is if you tell insurance company you have the seats, and they find out you know who did the damage, things could go really badly for you.
Likewise, it wouldn't take much for the insurance company to google s2000 and El Paso TX and find this thread, and find out all about this whole situation.

Ditto. You could be in real trouble if they found out what's happening. The best course of action is for you to turn the other guy in ASAP. Besides, it's dishonest of you to know who trashed your car, but make your insurance company pay for his actions. It's even worse if you're going to get money from him in exchange for your silence, then collect money from the insurance company too.
I'm not saying this is what you're doing, but it already sounds fishy. The right thing to do is to report him and hold him accountable. He should pay, not your insurance company.

Something smells really fishy here...
I can't, for the life of me, think of any reason NOT to turn him in. It actually makes my blood boil a bit that you didn't/won't turn him in. IMHO, you are just as guilty of S2K theft/damage as he is in this case. So maybe you should sell the car and not get another one. We don't need thieves in this community.

As for why he is protecting the guy, he's already told us. They are both military. In the same branch, on the same base. A brotherhood with bonds that run deep.
I imagine there might also be a sort of 'no snitching' mindset that pervades. Maybe he could experience repercusions that exceed the worst we are all speculating if he did turn him in. Not from his superiors, but from his comrades.
Maybe this is why it sounds so fishy to us.

^^^ haha, yes we get it, no one offically ordered the CODE RED on Santiago. (a few good men reference)
even with or without the seats he has commited insurance fraud, he stated that the trunk and the window were from previuos incidents but were included in this claim. that coupled with the BS about the guy. seems all out of wack
