This thread is making me think about patching upthe inside of that exact area ahead of time, so perhaps I don't have to worry about this happening to my car. That should stop the potential problem I think.

Interseting that zoomkat FIRST assumes the OWNER must have done something to make the top tear. There are hundreds of threads on S2Ki about top tears in this EXACT location. Do you think the owners of all of these cars did something to cause damage to their tops? I would much more likely believe a design flaw is to blame...

"same spot" meaning the same spot that most everyone in the s2000 world is having problems with wear like in this pic (found on one of the other soft-top tear threads)
You have a feeling?

Are you kidding me?

Have a feeling! That is the funniest stuff I've ever heard.

Hey guys i have a feeling that he didn't pay his taxes! Or no no I have a feeling this guy is Hispanic. What the heck do I know, I just had a feeling.

What is the "same spot"?

I say, what is "this Feeling"?

But it's ok, to be this ignorant to have 'feelings' over the internet it's no wonder you were so ignorant of the 'same spot' issue with S2ks.

I STAND CORRECTED!!!!

I went out and looked at the spot on my top and I have the same wear starting in the same place. I took a little piece of adhesive label and put on the spot and followed it as best as I could until the top was down. The problem appears to be caued by the top frame hinge point shown directly below the wear point in the pix. When the top is down, the fabric is wrapped around this point possibly stressing the fabric. I got my hand down in the storage area on the top outside and the fabric is not being pinched while in the down position. Making a close inspection of the frame hinge, the inside frame member at the hinge has a noticeably sharp top outside edge. It appears that this sharp edge is cutting/stressing the fabric when the top is down (the length of the wear spot on the frabric pretty much matches the radius of the sharp edge). Putting a patch on the spot might help some, but I think I will get my dremel tool and grind off the sharp edge and make it rounder (maybe the dealers should do it?).

Anyhow, sorry for jumping to conclusions. Maybe others should check for this sharp edge and bring it to the attention of Honda for a recall to have the dealers remove the edge. If you have the sharp edge, show it to the dealer and say this design defect needs to be fixed along with replacing the top.

Well, at least I have the brains to try to figure out the problem (a twenty minute investment). Careful, your brain might explode thinking about "feelings" too much.

FLIPMY02K, was the dealer succesful in fixing the bumper alignment? I have this same problem and have had them (thier local body shop) try once, with no apparent success.

they said they tried once the first time, but i'm willing to bet they didn't even touch it I might have just picked it up at a time when it wasn't as warped (since the hotter the temp the worse it looks). Hopefully they do something about it this time. If not it's another thing I can complain about with their bosses.

Kudos to you zoomkat. Most people on this site keep digging a deeper hole even when it is obvious they are wrong. Way to go....

There is a thread on here somewhere which shows how to fix the issue. They need to remove the passanger side tail lamp and rivet the edge of the bumper in place once it is aligned. Like the top issue, this is a design defect, but most won't make a big deal out of it(me included).
