Top Speed ?

The car is capable of 172 on a glass smooth surface, with no wind, and bouncing off the limiter. No downhill needed.

I don't think it is possible to reach the rev-limiter in 6th gear unelss you tave a hurricane behind you and are running down a hill.
Also, 172mph is way too much for the S2000 (even withthe roof up it has a CD of 0.38).I'm talking 'real speed' not the speedo reading. I think 155mph is the best it will do under ideal conditions (no dowhill though). That would be showing 163mph or so on the speedo.

S2Kguy, no real guessing ... lot's of math, lot's of listening to everyone else and reading every S2000 article that I can get my hands on (this is about 10th thead about the top speed in the last 3 months so do a search and read for yourself).
Though here's all the reasons/facts that I took into account:
There's 'formula' that let's you feed in all the data and it tells you the top speed. If you have all the data then there's no queswork. besides that the highest speed on the speedo has been 172mph, but usually people can 'only' hit 160 something on the speedo.
If that's not enough then look at the fact that S2000 cannot go any faster than 165mph ... it is not possible as the gearing will not allow it. 169mph is the speed you'd get if you could take it all the way past the redline in 6th gear and bounce of the limiter. I don't think that there is a car in existance that can 'bounce' of the revlimiter in it's final gear. The airdrag gets too much in any car ... and S2000 is not very slippery ... .38CD is very bad for top speed. So, concidering that S2000 is not geared anymore than 165mph, the number you're looking for is lower.
The reason that 172mph showed on the speedo (there's a photo of it) is because the speedo has about 8 - 9mph error at that speed. The 'actual' speeds reached were more like 172 - 9 = 161mph ... though, from what I remeber from the 'original' post, it was slightly downhill. If you're looking at the more common top speed, then 163 = 163 - 8 = 155mph. The Speedo error can be worked out of you know what revs the car was pulling when the speed was reached.
155mph is probably achievable but if you look at any publication that tests cars and find S2000 a test on S2000, then 150mph is about as fast as anyone from a magazine has managed to go in S2000. They're actually usually a couple of miles slower, but 150mph I have seen published. If you're interested in the 'scan' of the stats from the article then let me know.

A few weeks ago I found myself on a long straight stretch of highway, tried for a top speed run, top up, one passenger, i was in 6th gear in vtec, going slightly downhill and it seemed like it would not accelerate past 127mph. it stayed at 127 for a few (maybe 3 seconds) before i let off the throttle and coasted. does the s2k just climb slowly around this speed or is there some kind of limiter on a stock ecu (like my buddy suggested, his vw r32 is electronically limited to 129mph top speed unless you piggyback the ecu)?

Thanks Captain Obvious. What is your point? You may as well contribute to the thread instead of stating the obvious.
The fastest I've gone is 135; no reason to go any faster than this. What DavidM said on page one seems to make a lot sense.
