I have never heard a quote that high. You found the right dealer!

I would definitely go the EZ-On route with a replica HT. You could probably do it with $ to spare after paint. There are 2 great DIY's for the install on this site, and the top comes with its own instructions. With all three, you'll be able to finish the install in a day. It took me about 7 or 8 hours. GO FOR IT!

dunno about them, not one of the major companies I was hoping to hear.

if you had, say.... progressive insurance, then they probably wouldn't have a problem doing the estimate at your home/business. but they make it a point to do that for the customer, as it's all part of the service you're paying for.

I'm not familiar with wawanesa, but generally, insurance companies will make you go to the shop (like state farm does), and they'll show up to do the estimate as soon as they can. sometimes it might be of benefit because there will be more than one claim at the body shop that they can knock out. it's all about efficiency.

don't be surprised when they low-ball you on the repair check.

I was in the same situation your in last year.
I didnt know what I wanted. Insurance gave me $1600 for a new OEM top. Price I was quoted was $3,000. But if you take the check to honda then your insurance will pay the rest of it. They do that just so you wont go spend it on something else.
So pretty much for my $100 deductible I got a new top, then went out and bought a Clifford 50.7x with proximity sensor, so ill always know whats happening to my car.

I went to my local honda dealership to see how much a new top would cost.
They want 1200 for the top and 1500 for labor.
Is that the most ridiculous thing in the world or what?

thanks for the info guys...will get more info once I talk to the adjuster.

testmonkey: who is your insurance company? 1600 for soft top, thats low balling. is that after your ded amount?

what do you do when they offer you a amount that is low? do you counter or take it.

I wouldn't mind taking 2k-2200 after they minus my ded. I can pay the difference to get the hardtop. I found some site selling hardtop for 2600 which isn't too bad. The price that honda gave me is just the top without glass and stuff. Other site has it for 2600 but not sure if its everything included (msrp on their site is 3500 so it might be everything).

anyways, hope to get this resolve soon.

anymore tips and advise is much appreciated.

if going with soft top not OEM go with a dif brand and save some money OR put in some more money and buy a hardtop of your liking.

OP: Are you still financing the car? If so, wawanesa will not cut you a check for anything over $1500. The adjuster will assess damages and will most likely send you a invoice quote within a few days. There's no need to go around town for replacement/repair quotes, as the adjuster will look for the cost. If the amount is less than repairs cost, the shop making the repairs will contact the adjuster for the remainder.

I believe victor is the adjuster in our area. he came from sac to work on mines and gave me a good quote. I dealt with wawanesa a few weeks ago for a key scratch. Good luck.

thanks eehandee...yes i am still financing the car.

so i guess they won't be writing me a check.

if that is the case, should I let Honda do the repair so that its perfect with oem soft top?

still going to start a hardtop fund so this won't happen again. thanx.

a dealership is a dealership; they don't employ god and robots, so they're just as likely to make a mistake as any other place.
