I've gotten wet doing about 130km/h on the highway in light rain with my top down.

I kept my top down because I wanted to test the whole "more gas = less wet" theory. If anything, it get's a little dangerous/annoying as you get rain in your eyes.

I ended up pulling over and put my roof up.

Light rain will be drawn over the car with most of the air. As the rain becomes heavier, the volume of water that hits the windshield accumulates and streams around onto the side windows. This stream eventually works its way to the top of the side glass and "flicks" over in drops into your eyes and onto your forehead. Kind of annoying, but worth every stare from fellow motorists

It depends on how heavy the rain is. If it's REALLY coming down, you'll get wet.

However, anything short of "pouring" or "raining cats and dogs" can be avoided by staying above 45-ish MPH. If it starts raining harder, put the side windows up to keep rain from getting on the door-sills. The rain will run along the side windows, and fly off the trailing edge. The outside shoulders of your seats will get wet, and anything aft of the seatbacks (roll hoops, secret compartment, etc.) will get wet.

I personally LOVE driving top down in the rain when I can. It's just lots of fun to me to try and keep the speed up to keep the rain out, and you get to really smell the rainy air. More gas really does = less wet. I couldn't really care less what other people think... it's fun for me and that's all that matters.

Real men get rain on the INSIDE of the windshield

(yeah... real stupid men )

I have gotten more water in the car driving with the top down in very heavy fog than in even moderate rain. The fog condenses on the windshield and comes over the top and around the sides. I have driven in light rain many times with the top down, and agree with i_heart_my_DB8 and others that good speed will route the water right over the cockpit - and is fun.

Drove through a rain storm on Mars once with the top down, at speed. I got all red.
