My problem with sound and aftermarket intakes is that your supposed to gain like 1-2 mpg better from the better airflow, but then when you hear the sound your tempted to stomp on it just for the hell of it. There goes your gain in mpg plus some. I'd rather save gas and get decent gains rather than the sound

I dont buy the sound=turbulence=lose argument at all. having taken plenty of fluids classes, sounds pretty far fetched to me. Fluid flow direction is gonna be the same after passing thru the intake material for both cases, and even a difference in direction thru the tiny little openings of the filter fibers is negligible in comparison the the intake diameter.
Id venture to say that the hp drop seen consitently is completely from temperature difference, and if its turbulent with the cover off then its also turbulent with it on. you ever rev the engine with your head by the intake opening with the cover on? sounds the same if your near the square opening.

i love the sound. i figure if its over 70-80F outside i'll be paying for it in power. if its 50F out or colder, i'd figure there wont be any appreciable difference.
it doesnt look like theres much risk of taking in water with the s2000 intake setup (w/o airbox). is that correct? if not, then i'll be throwing the stock box back on in the garage if its been raining outside.
