Is this too much to pay for fluid change?
I called up Mike Harvey Honda today and asked for a quote on changing the oil diff fluid and transmission fluid. 253 dollars?! and i told him i was coming up on the 1 year service but only have 4000 miles on the car so do i need to add that break in stuff or whatever and he said it didnt matter. So i guess i'm wondering if any of this seems weird or not. I know i could do the diff and transmission myself but if im gona go get an oil change i might as well let them do it too and bring a bottle of mobil1. thanks!

It would be too much for me. It's relatively easy to do both of those yourself. Cheap, too! Especially as there are DIY w/pics in the "Under The Hood" forum.
Added benefit is that you get to sort of "bond" more with your car!

$253 US Dollars ? Are you sure they did not quote you in Hongkong Dollars ?
Kidding aside, 5 quarts high quality conventional oil + PCX oil filter + 1 quart high quality Diff fluid + 2 quarts high quality Manual Transmission fluid should not cost you more than $50. You got ripped off by that dealer.
If you can do the diff and trans yourself, you can do the oil easily and save yourself more than $200. If you do not like to do these changes yourself then buy these fluids and filter and pay a good independent mechanic to do these changes for no more than $50, and save $150.

Way too much.
Redline Tranny Fluid & OEM crush washers = $20
Mobil1 Diff Fluid & OEM crush washers = $10
OEM Motor Oil, PCX Filter & crush washer = $20
Getting to know your car better = PRICELESS!!!!
p.s. Depending on your location, there are a number of independent service guys on this site that will be able to do this work for considerably less $$. Failing that, get the supplies and pay a different shop to just do the labor.
p.p.s. Take a lesson here, that dealer is ripping you off!!!

i havent taken my car in yet. the first quote i got was 253 for diff tranny and oil. then i called another and they said 180. that second dealer also said it would be 320 for 1 year maint + diff because diff is not included. what do you think the best way to go about this would be? i definately do not want to give honda a reason to deny me any warrenty claim that may happen in the future. i know i could do the tranny and diff by myself fairly easily, but i was more worried about the oil change. i searched but i couldnt find the DIY thread. any help would be appreciated. i've never changed the oil on a car before. like i said, my main concern is the warrenty.

Just keep all your receipts for the parts and fluid. Its like going to a Fast Lube place. Write down the mileage in the car's main. log book and staple the receipts in there and save yourself the $200 bucks.

Ok thanks. The last question i have is about the 1 year service. it includes check this check that. if it is not done at a honda dealer could that possibly be grounds to deny a warrenty claim? meaning, should i get ripped just to be safe?

Do NOT get ripped just to save the warrenty.
Do the inspections yourself. They are all common sense type things, and to be honest and blunt, the dealer techs will blow it ALL off anyway.
There is no way for them to deny your warrenty claims because you CAN prove the car has been serviced. By having your recipts.
Another option is to post up in your local forum and see if anyone is willing to help you out. If someone in the Chicago area needed these services, I wouldn't do them FOR them, but I would assist and teach for free.
