Too many S2KS?
#11
Ummm...hello?? I think the "too-many-S2000s" people need some perspective.
begin{rant}
This car is RARE!! I see only a few other S2000s in a week - and I'm in L.A.!! I see FAR more Boxsters, Z3s and Vettes, to the point where I'm sick of looking at them. Hell, I see more 996 Carreras than S2000s.
Consider this: Honda's production capability is 25,000 cars/year for the WORLD - and they're only running at HALF that rate. Compare that to the 400,000 Accords and 400,000 Civics Honda sells every year! Even if they maxed out their production line for the next 7 years, there'd still be only about 200,000 cars total -- one-half of one year's output of Civics. More likely, though, it'll only be half of THAT. So the S2000 will NEVER be a common car, even if they make it for 10+ years as they did the NSX (and as we've heard they plan to do with the S).

Cheers,
John

It's an AWESOME car but with a limited audience. That will bring the value down - trade-in, outright resale, balance sheet and /or Honda seeing the saturation and dropping MSRP to boost sales.
How can WE bring up the value of this ride or sustain it? I know you can't put a monetary value on enjoyment, which this car delivers in 9000 revs per minute, but I just want to protect the $ value as long as possible...

Don't get me wrong, I'd sell my kids and dogs before the stook. This car has such great potential for long term notoriety that I was just trying to think outside the box. Seems there are alot of creative minds on this site.
Also, you never know when financial hardships occur, they are certainly not planned. If you have the bad luck ( or bad judgement), every little penny helps. S2K being so new and such great enthusiasm,...the possibility of protecting value is there.

During the recent "Woodward Dream Cruise" here in the lovely Detroit suburbs, I saw only 2 other S2000's (mixed in with the est. 40,000 "crusier" cars), so yeah, they continue to be rare. Only trouble is, the two I saw were black like mine I agree with Raptor, more to wave at while on the road

but I'd prefer there were fewer, not more, out there!
I'd rather see more S2Ks around then Boxters (I see Boxters at every fricken turn).
It's nice to have a car that's rare and appreciated by a small number of people, but, at the same time, you want to see these cars be successful so that Honda continues to make them.
The NSX's future looked kind of grim during the past couple of years because sales keep declining (Acura sold something like 270 NSXs in 2000 and, if current pace holds, won't even hit 200 this year). Fortunately, Honda has indeed decided to move forward with a next-gen NSX. The question remains as to whether or not they water it down for the mass market (think 'Vette) or make a rare handmade exotic that will rival the 360. I'd like to see the NSX remain rare.

I'd kinda like S2k to remain on the "medium-rare" side. The best thing I see we can do to maintain this great car's value is to keep doing what is being done on this site. TALK IT UP! +/- limited production. Word of mouth is the best advertisement and in this case enticement. Doesn't hurt Honda's advertising budget either. Maybe Honda should donate $ to S2KI or otherwise help support S2KI....for propagating this word of mouth? Then people like Rick and others could maybe get a little financial support for the many, many hours of R&D into some of the products you can find on this website and it's sponsors. OK, maybe I'm FOS, just trying to be creative to the cause of enjoying an awesome car for years to come!!!
