I, too, am an everyday driver.
I've gone from OEM to Yoko A520's to Dunlap S5000's.
Yokos were HORRIBLE! 8k miles and done, they didn't stick well. But they were affordable. The 5000's stick great (esp. wet!), are very reasonable price (TR-$114?. And at 120 miles I can hardly notice the wear bars. I would think the 8000's would be real close to OEM in stickiness and price, at least with the 5000's you're cutting cost with great traction for daily commuting. OK, and some crazy fun on weekends, just ask Clive!

How long did your OEMs last?

I suppose you're talking about the Dunlop Sport SP5000s? I've got the SP4000s on my Civic and they're okay. Even the SP4000s (which have a slightly lower treadwear rating as compared to the 5000s) use a rubber that is much, much harder than the OEM S-02s.

The 02's lasted 12k, as I said the A520's lasted only 8,000 and were much harder than the 02's, lots of skipping around. The Sport 5000's have not slid once, and we've had a bunch of rain here since I put them on. I've pushed them a bit on the wet roads, nothing extreme but enough for me to have a high comfort level with them in the rain. I've still got OEMs on front, they're holding up well, but I'm sure next buy for the rears will be a set of 4. If the mileage out of the Dunlaps is at least "decent", I'll stick with them, pun intended.

I'd be considering Yoko AVS Intermediates when the time comes. I'm on my second set on my GSR right now. They stick really nicely, are reasonable in the rain, are good for 15-20K (variable of course, this was a daily driver), and are CHEAP ($64 per tire for my Integra). Not that I'm looking for cheap tires, but at that price it certainly cannot be a mistake to try them out. The only complaint is that they are almost as bad as the SO2's when it comes to cold and snow (if that's an issue for you).

PS-My roomate has the AVS Sports on his S4 and isn't all that impressed with them compared to the Dunlop SP5000's he put on for winter use.

Correctomundo! My 520's slipped on the 1-2 shift (when I wasn't grinding )and on twisty turns, with a little help from me. When I first got them, the store (America's Tire) suggested I should get 30k on them...hah! But they did buy one of the dunlaps, and they suggested that with a new car, the particular handling characteristics of various tires just need to be shaken out, what might work on a Boxster might be totally different on a S2K, so I guess I'll just keep running through their inventory until I find something that's tolerent of my driving style!

I never thought about the Intermediates. We could get 225/50s for the front and 245/45s for the rear...and they'd only cost $79 and $101 respectively. With a treadwear rating of 160 their rubber should be fairly close to that of the OEM S-02s.

Again, has anyone put any Goodyears on their S2K? My local dealer is who I have always bought tires from and I would like to continue. If so, what model? He recommended Eagle HP Ultra Pluse or Eagle RSA. Any experience?
