Tire wear?
#13
Like it was posted earlier, the tires go from great to horrible in the blink of an eye! Especially in the wet. I realized I needed rear tires when I started to hydroplane in the rain. Since I was driving to Dineyworld in two days the last time this happened, I was pretty much at the local tire dealerships mercy. i called around, and 4 shops gave me the same song and dance about the S-02's being "phased out." Only one shop could get them (S-03's) before I left, and quoted me the lowest price. I got lucky for once.... I was not driving to Orlando without getting new tires. It rains once in a while down here in So. Florida!!! Like a foot in a day!! I broke the new tires in real fast....

Sorry I didn't mean to be "glib" in my reply. The standard S-02s are being phased out, if not gone already. The OE S-02s are still in production. I'm assuming that it has something to do with the requirement to supply replacement parts for a car for certain number of years, and naturally becuase they still need them for the 2003's that are being made. I have not tried the S-03s myself, but I understant that while wet performance improves, dry handling is not as good. Since I've never had a problem in the rain (as long as you have tread) I have returned to S-02s. FWIW, on the S2000 I've also had Kumho 712s, Bridgestone RE-730s, BFG KDW and the S-02 was the best of all of them.

Got 30000 (no lie) on my fronts and 23000 on the rears. Had to replace both rears at 7000 after taking a large sharp piece of wooden pallet in the right sidewall. Had to get both rears for proper handling and acceleration without pulling. I do a fair amount of freeway commuting and not enough apex-strafing. No dragster starts either.
SO-2's were a snap to get from TireRack and drop-shipped to a local installer.
