? on tire life for so-3
The car I'm thinking about buying has 8,000 miles on the tires (S-03s). I was wondering what the general lifespan is for these tires or how much tread should I have left? I know this all depends on how hard the car was driven, but a general ballpark figure would be nice. Thanks.

On average you can get about 9k miles on a set of S03's if you drive fairly aggregsively. I would suppose that a reserved driver may see 12-15k out of a set of S03's.
This is for rear tires. Your fronts should last through 2 or 3 sets of rears.

I have 14,6xx miles on my S-03's. Using the old-fashioned penny test (you know, the one that says if you hold the penny upside down and the tread doesn't reach the top of Lincoln's head you need to replace them) the rear tires reach where his hair meets his forehead (1/4 inch deep?) and the front tires reached the top of his nose (3/8 of an inch deep?) I can't find a damn ruler. I can probably safely get at least 3k more miles out of the rears. I drive my car like a wuss most of the time.
