I have 12,500 miles on my tires. I'm getting close to the time where I'll need to replace my rear tires.

From reading posts over time I realize that this is a common problem. My question is has anyone gone after Honda on this? When I bought my car in October 1999 there was no disclaimer about short tire life. I'm not sure if anything is provided now in the way of disclosure.

12.5k is pretty good for a HiPerformance tire like the S-02. Considering what we can do in this car with these tires, I'd say its pretty damn good. Not to say I don't agree that I wish we could get more mileage out of them, but Honda put out a performance car with the best suited tires. Unfortunately, these tires come with no treadwear warranty. We pay to play.

I have never seen anything about the tire mileage in any warranty book; the same goes for brakes. They may suggest when to get them inspected but never replaced as there are too many variables. How would it be Honda's problem? They did not make the tires, Bridgestone did and any warranty is provided from them.

Performance tires menas high wear, it's part of owning a performance vehicle. You could always put touring tires on your car, but keep in mind that you will not have near the handling you have now.

I went to my dealer and bitched, not so much about the rears, but the inside of both fronts were also gone - bald. They said I'd have to take it up with a bridgestone dealer - to which I said, please, there is no warranty on this tire and I'm not going to get bubkiss. So I talked them into putting on new tires I had shipped there at no charge to me. Killed two birds with one begging, didn't have to transport 4 tires in the S2000 and got free mounting/balancing.

Better than nothing! All I really did was ask for it too, I didn't have to go hard line on them or anything.

hsckolnik,

My stock tires were close to the wear bar at 5,000 miles.

hsc, the Uniform Tire treadwear code of 140 is an obvious tip-off these tires are not meant to last. No deceptive advertising going on there. 12K miles is not bad compared to other exotic-OEM tires. Mid-1980's Mustang GT tires (Gaterbacks?) lasted something like 6K miles.

You could make a case on those unusual wear situations (all on inside edge or ...) but if I get 8K miles on SO2's I'll be happy enough.
