Unless you have a different rim size, why would you want anything other than the Bridgestone S-02 that is designed for the car?

They have been shown to offer better behavior than just about anything else you can find.

you might want to check out the tire and wheel forum for more tire information.

regarding kumho tires - it really depends on the sizes and the model of the tire.

Just yesterday, and for the first time in 4000 miles with my MY02, I nearly lost it when the S-02's completely lost traction all of a sudden.

I've read about the non-progressive nature of the S-02s and hadn't seen it until then. It scared me and now I'd seriously think about getting a more progressive tire.

BTW, I drive like an old man. In fact, I am an old man. All I was doing was accelerating from a stop through a left hand turn of about 110 degrees. I shifted into 2nd near the end of the turn and...bam out came the rear.

The S-02's are cool. And dangerous.

They discontinued the S-02's and replaced them with a better S-03. I replaced my rear stock S-02's with the new S-03's. From what I read, they are the highest rated and most popular for the S.

I purchased some Falken 245/45/16's Betas and been happy with them. They have a little less grip than the SO-2, and they squeel easily when starting in a turn. But the wear seems better and you can't beet their price.

What Kumho tires are you even asking about? Ecsta MX, Supra 712, Victoracer V700?

I will assume you are referring to their popular Ecsta 712 tire. I have it on my S2K and have had absolutely ZERO problems with the tires (this is my fourth set, first with the Honda) to date. I drive the car 6/10th's on weekdays and 8/10th's on the weekends. I've experienced no traction surprises at all. The Ecsta provides dependable and predictable communication from below and simply are fantastic in the rain. Their wear rating is strong and you should get at least 15,000 miles out of them and probably more than that with what I perceive to be your moderate driving style. Their contact patch is not as wide as a same-sized S0-2 so you'll want to be looking at a 245mm if you want to retain the OEM's footprint.
They are not the BEST high performance tire, but fine for all but the most extreme drivers. Saying the S0-2 is the only appropriate tire for the S2000 is silly. That's like saying Mobil One is the only decent synthetic oil or Zaino is the only polish suitable for our car. My advice is to stay clear of those who assign status to items like tires, car waxes, wiper fluid and window wash.
There are plenty of viable choices, tires are among them.
