I don't know about you, but most people get an impression of the S2000 is a fast car. I had a guy who asked me at a light if it was a 12 cylinders under the hood.

If you don't at least redline once a week, you really are missing out buddy. It's not to prove anything to anyone. It's just for our enjoyment.

Once you VTEC, you'll never go back.
I have hit vtec often enough. I feel enjoyment out of the car from many aspects of it. I enjoy the looks of the car, handling, feel of the controls, shifting, top down driving, parking a small car vs. my diesel, etc. The car is not just a vtec technology demonstrator to me.

I have three motorcycles that will trounce the S2000 thru the 1/4 and a shifter kart that laps the local road course faster than all streetable cars I have seen (F40, 911 turbos, corvettes)and a few of the lighter built race cars. I am not sure the S2000 could thrill me with its speed At least not to the point that I was addicted enough to vtec it every day.

Man shifting at 3000? which means your putting load on your engine under 3000! The car doesn't even get into its optimum range to pull itself until 3500rpm. You guys driving your s2k's this way will not help you with saving your engine or gas for that matter. You are causing more harm then good. Look at the rpm range this car has and your lucky to hit 1/3 of it. If you don't want to use your Vtec fine, but run the motor in the rpm it was meant to run. Shift at 4000-4500rpm at least and cruise at 3000-3500 your car will thank you for it in the long run! This is especially true for the AP1 owners.

Somebody forgot to give these guys the common sense manual when they left the show room
This car has VTEC. Therefore, it has a LOW SPEED cam profile and a high speed cam profile. A engine with one cam profile might be bothered by running it below half its RPM range. But, I wouldn't think this engine would be harmed by running like an engine with a normal (6K) rpm range since it has a cam for that rpm range.

Ragging on people's common sense ....

I've been weaning myself off the VTEC addiction, somewhat successfully. My friend shifts at 3-4 and gets 21 mph. I shift(ed) at 6-8, and was getting 18-19.
Yeah it was meant for it, blah blah blah, but socal non-highway traffic = short bursts of boring straight lines.
Now when you get to the remote highways...like S19 or Modjeska (which no longer exists I hear because of the fire), it's a different story.

Stop trying to be a smart a$$. You have no idea how VTEC works. Maybe you should look it up first before posting.

Meh, I may go into Vtec once a da usually its when im speeding up on the onramp on the freeway or if i need to speed up and pass someone on the freeway.

I mean, its only Vtec, ive only had 2 cars since I was 16 and both of them had Vtec and both had 8k rpms, so been using vtec for last 8 years... Granted my previous car was a GSR and its alot slower than the S2k haha. Yea its fun to drive in, but I dont make it habit of doing it all the time while driving just use when I need it. BUT when i feel like having fun I will take out the S for drive and have some fun with Vtec

I rarely get into vtec monday-friday, unless I go out late at night for a quick burn with a friend... my commute isn't any fun, and has enough traffic in both directions that you can't really have a lot of fun.

that being said, on weekends, when i'm out fairly late at night, mmmhmmm.
