I can't pooch the car, even if I want to, because when I do... It sounds like a tractor, and rides like a '79 Toyota pickup. Nobody wants to drive a '79 Toyota tractor.

How long did you wait until going into vtec when buying your car new?

I just bought mine and was somewhat forced into vtec merging onto I-95 with only 50 miles on the car. But I bought it with 11 miles on it though, so I'm sure it has seen vtec before that.

Hmm...I wouldn't do it again if I were you. You need to break in for at least 500 miles before you can do hard accelerations. Check the owner's manual for proper break in intructions.

1) The owner's manual lists 600 miles as the proper break-in period.

2) The "proper" break-in has be highly debated on these pages.

I sometimes go days without using VTEC. I get around 250rwhp right at 5600 where VTEC engages so shifting at 4-5K is where you all are shifting at 9K
I was thinking the same kind of thing. I normally shift at about 4000rpm but it makes about 120whp and 160ft/lbs down there vs. only around 80whp stock. It would be like a stock S waiting till near 6k.

If I go to 6k I'm making around 215whp and nearly 190ft/lbs...much better then stock

I drive like a grandma all week shifting at roughly 3k. Mostly for the gas mileage and because traffic down here on the MS coast sucks and rarely in the middle of traffic is there a chance to even come close to VTEC. O wells ... 28+ MPG FTW! Haha.
Man shifting at 3000? which means your putting load on your engine under 3000! The car doesn't even get into its optimum range to pull itself until 3500rpm. You guys driving your s2k's this way will not help you with saving your engine or gas for that matter. You are causing more harm then good. Look at the rpm range this car has and your lucky to hit 1/3 of it. If you don't want to use your Vtec fine, but run the motor in the rpm it was meant to run. Shift at 4000-4500rpm at least and cruise at 3000-3500 your car will thank you for it in the long run! This is especially true for the AP1 owners.

Somebody forgot to give these guys the common sense manual when they left the show room
