warming up the car makes sense--thats why you cant vtec until your coolant is at temperature. but you aren't trashing your car because you dont wait half an hour for the engine to saturate at the ideal 170F or whatever temperature before you push it.
these engines run great, whether people beat the snot out of them or not. honda built in some features (like vtec cutoffs) to make sure we dont screw anything up too bad, even if we try really hard.
just have fun with it! id absolutely HATE to have driven ultra conservatively to preserve my prized car and then have somebody hit the car after 6 years and find out i couldve been having fun all along and nothing would have changed!! have fun with the thing--thats why you bought it instead of an echo, isn't it?

My dad drives the same way, and when he does hit VTEC, he shifts right out of it at about 7k... Dont wuss out, this car beggs to be taken to 9k. Why eltse is the redline there for? Why is VTEC there? HIT IT!

Why? These cars were built with F1 in mind. These cars were made to hit VTEC every freaking day multiple times per day. Haven't you taken a look at Honda's reliability in their craftsmanship?

I said that my car sees Vtec daily, it sees the redline daily, just not every shift, there is no need for the redline in traffic. I never shift until at least 5k and keep it at the 4k range.
If the road is clear, yeah, it sees the redline...I absolutely do NOT waste my car

i agree with junky. to avoid carbon build-up, it's good to high rev it often. but keeping the rings in good working order, and for the trainy, shift at different rpm's often. honda engines are made for high-revving, i learned that way back with the crx-si

haha. needless to say, he revved it pretty high the rest of the time.

I drive my car once or twice a week but I make sure to crack it open once or twice when I do have it out. I shift at 4k, any lower I feel like the car is telling me "what the hell is ur problem". I love no torque lol
