This is true but only till your engine is properly broken in, like between 10k -15k miles. Note that some owners changed to synthetic at the first oil change and have reported no problems.

I have 27,000 miles on the car, and I'm more than willing to fork out an extra few bucks if synthetic will improve performance or keep my internals in better shape. I live in Los Angeles so I rarely have any extreme weather to deal with - Will there be any difference at all between the two?

It has been said that synthetics have characteristics that make them better lubricants for internal combustion engines. Some may disagree. It's up to you to decide what to believe. I've use synthetics for over 2 decades and none of my engines have failed me yet but then, would they have failed me even if I had used dino oil? Who knows!

Mobil 1, K&N, since 5k mi., no problems...but then again i use mobil 1 in my lawn mower...

Okay ... I'll spill mine too. I use Mobil 1 5W-30 in my Honda snow thrower, Mobil 1 10W-30 in my Honda lawn mower, 5W-30 in my Honda Accord, and Mobil 1 10W-30 in my Honda S2000.

I've been using Mobil1 since around 12k miles on my S2000 and I have 36k miles now. No issues. I've always used the Honda OEM filter and it works well for me.
