Default Thinking of buying

I have been thinking about buying a new S2000 for some time now. I have test driven one for about 20 miles and really liked it. My concern is sometimes I will be driving this car on extended trips, 6-10 hours, one way.

Have any of you had experiences with extended trips in this car? If so, how was the trip physically? I am thinking about making this my 60th birthday present and thought this might be a good place to ask the question.

Thanks,

Gary

It will use up a lot of gas as opposed to a more friendly trip car, however if you aren't going to be on the highways the whole time then think of it as 6-10 hours to really have some fun!

I've found that although the ride is a bit firm, the seat is incredibly comfortable.

I've made several trips in the five hour range with no problems.

Bring sunblock though.

Did a 4501 mile, two week trip with my girlfriend last September. No issues, we had a great time! I've made two other similar trips on my own, also no problems. Some people report discomfort issues with the seats, but for me it's perfectly comfortable.

i've been on a few longish trips in the s2000 and its comfortable for the driver but the passenger may get uncomfortable. main problems are that youve gotta crank the radio up on the highway, not much storage space up front, and cups in holders get in way of shifting. other than that its great. oh and i averaged 31 mpg for a trip with mostly highway miles so its not bad at all.

I'd say go for it, but just don't expect BMW/MB/Audi/Lexus luxury in a small, spirited, convertable coupe.

MrOverlay, you should also post you question in the Vintage Forum section, for those of us over 40. Plenty of us old timers have driven long distance, some all the way across the country. I'm sure they'll be glad to give you insight about thier travels. As for myself I have no problem being in the S for that distance.

I just got back from a trip from Ottawa Canada that included the Smokey Mountains (did the Tail of the Dragon) and Charleston, SC. It included driving on superhighways and back roads through Georgia, Tennessee, North and South Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and New York. I had no stiffness at the end of a day of long driving (I'm 58) and looked forward to getting back in the car the next day. If you remove the styrofoam that holds the jack and tools, and just roll them up in a towel kept with the spare, there is a surprising amount of luggage space. I'm of the school that thinks that cup holders are for sissies. I'm in the car to drive, not dine. I didn't feel cramped in the car at all, and I'm a big guy and slightly claustrophobic by nature. So, I'd go on a long trip with the S2000 with few reservations. However, if your travelling companion and you plan on bringing a lot of luggage, or you want to do major shopping or antiquing along the way, this may not be the car for your trip.
