wannas2000,
Prior to my buying the S2000 just over two years ago I'd driven a 300ZX for 6years. Some of that time was on a track in autocross. Great handling and torque - all else being equal it was the best car in it's class. Loved that car. Never gave a thought about the S2000, read a lot about it but just wasn't that interested. Then one day I go get gas at lunchtime from work and (fortunately) there is a Honda dealer right next to the gas station with a beautiful black S2000 sitting in the lot, a used one. Next day I stop and the guy lets me test drive it - which as you noted is almost unheard of, especially two years ago. But, since it was used....and now the rest is history. The test drive convinced me and I was back the next day to buy the new one on the showroom floor. If you can't get a test drive from a dealer see if someone on the board here is close to you and will offer you one. You wouldn't really want to test drive a brand new one anyway because of the break in period in which you can't VTEC - if you can find a used one and you like twisties, you'll be hooked. But it's VERY different than a Mustang or Camero, no chance of torque steering this car, it's a much more technical, but I think rewarding drive than either of those. You are absolutely connected to the road.
have fun!

This information has been most helpful. Im really learning a lot here in just a few days effort I looked at one down the street from me (new one) and it did feel really sweet sitting in the seats. I really like the seats alot, and the car seems to be really well structured.
As far as mods go for the car, is there more suspension mods or engne mods available just outa curiosity? Can this car handle even better with say some 18 inch tires wrapped around it?
I've been in a Z06 (02) before and can tell you that that car really handles. Would YOU guys agree that a S2000 can hang with a Z06 in the slalom, twisties, skidpad?
thanks for the replies

wannas2000,
One great thing about the S2000 is the availability of aftermarket parts. There's a ton of engine and suspension parts you can buy from many different companies. Although the S2000's engine and suspension are excellent, there's always room for improvement. Companies such as Spoon Sports, Mugen, Comptech, Tein, etc. make many performance parts for the S2000. Trust me, if you're really into modding your car, don't worry about the availability of aftermarket parts - there's plenty.
As for the Z06, I've never driven one, but I definitely admire them. I believe some people compare the handlight capabilities of the Z06 to the NSX, which means that the Z06 obviously handles better than the S2000. I did drive a C5 however, and it felt somewhere in between the handling of the Z28 and S2000 - the Z06 is a different story.
Example of fun factor between Z28 and S2000:
In the Z28, I drove from point A to point B - basically, I drove straight to wherever I needed to go. In the S2000, I always try to find the longest route to my destination.
