Thanks for reminding people of this... THIS is my fear + concern... I'm not terribly worried about wet sanding... I've done it a handful of times but separating tail lights is not my specialty and like I mentioned before, the last time I attempted this, I cracked the light.

Don't deal with him again. It's his responsibility to wrap the lights so they arrive in perfect condition . Shipping would not make those scratches at all if they were bubble wrapped and secured properly.

Just a quick update on the lens...

After successfully popping the tail light open to reset the lens (without cracking it this time ) and using 1000, 1500 and 2000 grit along with more polish and a drill, I was able to polish out the scratches.

Of course it's not perfect... Some dust, a spec of paint from the overspray managed to make it's way into the housing AND a few of cat hairs!

looks great, would you mind telling us what process you used (oven temp, amount of time in oven, glue, etc) for those who want/need to do the same - like me

Sure... Actually, I followed the footsteps that Kodokan_4 provided...

I recommend baking at 225F degrees for a minimum of 20 minutes, then increase the temp to 250F degrees for about 10 minutes. Remove them from the oven and pull them apart with your hands. A small screwdriver can be used to pry back the retaining tabs, but most likely the cover will just peel off easily.

I was very careful when I split the taillights, because of all of the talk about breakage, so I pulled them apart half way, and they began to cool, so I popped them back in the oven, to get them back up to 250F degrees.

Did you pay via paypal?

If so... You can file a dispute, stating that product received was not as described. Then when you file dispute, paypal will investigate your claim. You can send them pictures clearly proving the lights were not as described. They usually resolve it in 10 days, and they do a pretty good job of resolving issues in favor of the right person. That have personally saved me 3x.
