The "old" oil jet bolts had 2 holes. The oil jets spray oil at the underside of each piston to help cool and lubricate that part of the engine. The European cars got a recall to have the 4 hole bolts put in due to their "unique" driving style. Honda deemed that N. American driving styles were not such that the upgrade was needed but they put in the new bolts at the time of the recall on all subsequent cars anyway. Some of us, especially those who went F.I., put our own new bolts in.

As to the original question, it seems those who do not own a particular MY are the ones who speak out against it. I have an '00 and this one is the most maligned of all model years. Please don't tell my car this.

If I remember correctly the '00-'01 had a computer than ran a little richer, and starting with '02 production the computer was leaned out a bit. Don't know if that matters to anyone, but I like it lean

I also have a MY00 and I've never had any problems with it. It is my daily commute car.

I believe "recalls" are good for the life of the car and have no expiration dates, so you can always get "recall" works done on the car. "TSBs" on the other hand, are always at the discretion of the Honda service manager. Some service managers will deny a TSB update even when the car is under warranty because it is deemed not necessary for that car. Another service manager will do a TSB for free even when the car is out of warranty. But in general, once a car is out of warranty, don't count on getting TSBs done for free.

I researched this at the end of 02 when I was looking for a sports car. I decided the upgrades for the 02 were important enough to pay for a new car rather than save a few grand on a used car. In hind sight, I think my choice was correct, but I'm not sure all the supposed "improvements" to the 02 actually happened. I'm talking about the so-called improved clutch and improved synchros. As far as I can tell, the 02 did get the other stuff.

Be aware that the 02-03 has a slightly revised suspension. The 00 - 01s are a little twitchier.

when i was about to purchase my car in late 2001, i was debating between the 2001 Berlina/red on the floor or the 2002 Blue/blue out back, fresh from the truck.

Berlina was my first choice, but the glass window, the subtle appearance mods and interior trim pieces, such as the non carpeted console and tweeter pods made me get the 02 and at the time, blue was the rare color.

really matters what you want out of it ? For example, if you enjoy the High Revving' aspect then a pre '04 is better.
