Default Is there something wrong with my carpet?

Hi. I noticed that there is a small two inch slit on my car's carpet in front of the driver's seat where the elevation is. This slit is similar to the ones next to the floormat pegs.

Did the builders of this car put this slit in the carpet to install something, or is this a defect?

Does everyone else have this same slit in their carpet?

Yup. I have the same cut in my carpet. The dealer claims it there to provide access to a bolt or something. I wouldn't care, but the edges are curling up on the cut despite the fact it's in a location I don't put my feet. I kept complaining to my dealer and they've ordered me new carpet that has arrived and hopefully will be installed soon.

I my dealership and service department.

thanks jmc1971. It's kind of a relief to know that my car isn't defective. And it's very nice of your dealership to replace your carpet.

Thanks again.

Yep same thing, I ended up getting Muz mats to also protect the cross brace carpet as can wear easily. Muz mats are superior!!!

Muz mats are the best way to cover the cross brace and protect the carpet. Not to mention they look great.

I have to agree that the Muz mats add a really nice touch to the car. Perfect fit even on the weird shaped right side.

The slit allows you to access a hole in the bodywork where you can screw in a post to hold your mats in place. In the UK the posts were an option on earlier cars.

Muz sells mats with or without the hole and you can buy the posts from the marketplace

Looks like my carpets could have done with a clean before I took those

^^ Is that pic below the cross brace? If so, the cut we're talking about is actually on top of the cross brace. In other words, it's in addition to the one (I think) you're showing.

My floor mat post is below the cross brace and I have another piece of carpet cut on top of the brace.
