Was there ever an AUTO offered for the S2000?

That was a year and a half ago and still no automatic. I don't know why they would bother when they're already selling about as many as they can make. It would just be another expense and probably not really result in that many more sales.

Anyone care to explain the difference between SMG and tiptronic?
Koala what makes you think that having an auto released would affect the rest of us? Thats like someone who doesnt like the red interior say that it ruins the car. This is of course provided that it only comes as an option.

Here's the simple version:
Tiptronic is an automatic transmission that you can shift manually. This will have the torque converter and everything an automatic transmission has except you can override the gear it chooses.
SMG is a manual transmission, clutch and all, that is computer controlled and shifted electronically. This setup is just like the one we have except the computer does the clutch and gear changes which allow the same control and performance with the bonus that a computer can do it faster than any human possibly could. It can also be more accurate and consistent with rev matching on downshifting. This is what Formula 1 cars use today.

I like driving. I like shifting. I love shifting Hondas. Every shift with my S2000 or my Prelude VTEC is a perfect coming together of clutch, synchros, gears, my right hand and my left foot. I want no piece of the symphony removed or "improved."
My drive to work is less than two miles but involves down and up some hills, through some city streets and past a park. I have about a dozen gear shifts on each trip, and I savor each one--manual transmission, no gimics.
The S2000 is not designed for the driver who wants "driving for dummies." Most of Honda's line is for "driving for dummies" drivers. The S2000 is different.
