Default Test Pipe + Stock Exhaust?

I'm not sure what i wanna do with my exhaust setup, but if i went with just a test pipe and kept the stock exhaust, would i get any gains? Also, would it be alot louder?

Thanks

From everything I've read regarding this the exhaust tone will get a bit louder (similar to removing the stock resonator) but gains will be very minimal (+1hp maybe) since the stock cat has a very efficient design to match the stock catback system. I probably won't be doing a testpipe until I also do a catback. On a side note, anyone know if Spugen would make a header-back exhaust rather than catback?

I think you are able to get more than 1whp. I have did some dyno testing with test pipe alone with stock exhaust and there were 4whp across the band.

I stand corrected, I must have been trusting some false infomation. Gains of +4 hp are not bad at all, maybe I'll get a testpipe sooner than I thought.

Before I installed my J's exhaust I ran the test pipe with the stock exhaust. I wouldn't say it was louder, (maybe a bit) but just a different, better tone.

4hp sounds about plausible... I think it gains 8 or so when coupled with single exhaust... cant remember. Im putting my test pipe on this weekend with stock exhaust.

yea sure did, have had it on for a month or so now. Great mid range exhaust note too. Ive noticed a little bit more of pickup. Think my tips have turned yellow now, gotta get some Eagle One metal cleaner and clean them this weekend. Time to switch up to single tip exhaust. I recommend it, I picked up the T1-r testpipe from AJ-R.

This was my experience with my 02 with about 7K on the odometer at the time and a little louder note at the rear as well.
