Test Pipe - Defined
I think I have finally figured out why a test pipe is called a test pipe.
It's for when you get stopped and the officer sticks the mirror under the car, and discovers that the catalytic converter is gone, you can honestly say, "Oh yes, Officer, that was very observant of you. In fact, I have replaced the CC with a "Test Pipe" which I am using to test various exhaust related functions of the S2000 design."
That way, you are pretty much assured that the Officer will appreciate your diagnostic endeavor and understand that there is no need to write a citation for modifying the exhaust system. After all, if you are doing all this in the name of research, who can justifyably stand in the way of enhancing knowledge?
I'm glad that confusion is now resolved.

Basically, do not install a test pipe if you live in CA. Install one only if you live in a state like OK that has no emission testing, and no vehicle testing of any kind. And, as I think about it, this is the only advantage of living in a state like OK.
Thanks,
Richard

I always assumed it was to "test" the engines power as high as possibly... It's illegal, so one would put on the TEST pipe for the dyno/track to get numbers, but then replace it back to the CC for the road... So they would just test their car with it. Hrmmm?
