test drive impressions of new s2000
i did my 3rd career test drive of a s2000, a new 05....very quick, the slickest 6speed i have ever driven, stiff ride but minimal chassis flex, noisey engine and road noise, but sounds very sporty, very quick steering and great handling...ok seats but could use more adjustments and could be a little firmer for my injured back....overall great fun to drive, even on a cold night with the top up...btw, the stereo sucks, but that can be fixed........the amazing thing was,on the way home i stopped at the local porsche dealership and did a comparison drive on a 2001 carrera coupe with 20 k miles...the s2000 had quicker shifting , much better and quicker steering and even better stopping power..the acceleration edge goes to the porsche b ut it was close but the s felt quicker.....then i test drove the fabulous new 911s, 90k price...my second drive of this great car...this was much faster than either car, very comfortable, refined, great steering and a great shifter,..but quess what? the 911 s didnt blow me away like thelast time i drove it...the handling and shifting and steering werent as amazing as the last time and ithink the reason is the s2000 is sooooo good that i was spoiled!!!!theonly car i have driven that has been more fun is the ferrari 360, which is in a league of its own, and the ferrari 355...is the s2000 really this good of a sports car or i am delusional?

I think many S drivers have gone through similar experiences. I drove a friend's 911 about 120 miles one afternoon and afterwards I thought, "was that really so much more of a car compared to the S2000?" And, I was more impressed with the S's gearbox than the 911's. The glass targa top was nice, but when it is all said and done, its hard to beat the S and damn near impossible to do so considering the money.

You are asking all the "wrong" people. What do you expect? We are mostly die hard S2K fans here. Perhaps you should ask the Porsche owners.

BTW, the way the S seats are designed, it's real easy to stick some additional padding of your choice behind the center section (say, in the lower back area for instance). Takes about 5 minutes, makes a huge difference in support and looks completely undetectable.
