Test Drive...
I finally had the opportunity to test drive a MY 02 that one of the local dealerships is selling here. I was so impressed with the shifter and clutch. The steering is instantanious! The interior is actually kinda roomy compared to the boxster. Everything was very tight fitting and of the highest quality. I do have some dissapointments though. I really thought that the car was going to be noticably faster than my Prelude. Now I want to state that its the "feeling" of fast that disapointed me. The prelude has such a hard VTEC point and feels like it is just taking off. The S2K seemed a lot more tame in the "get up and go feeling" but after you come up on traffic, look at the spedo and you are at 70 mph! Has anyone else had this same experience that was a previous prelude owner? Did I just not drive the car enough? Possible problems with the car I drove? Just wanted a little feedback from someone who may have done the same thing. All in all im still planning on getting one. Very sweet ride!

I also own a Prelude and believe me, the acceleration is so smooth in the S that all I can say is the S is deceptively quicker. I think the Prelude has something like a 6.9s 0-60. The one thing the Prelude has is a greater "feeling" of torque and maybe that's what you mistake for acceleration.
Being that the Prelude is FWD and when you punch it the weight shifts off of the front wheels (less than ideal) and you can get wheel spin. The RWD S does not do this and that's what I like about the S over the Prelude.

I agree with you about the Vtec kick on the Prelude. Mine felt like an automatic switching gears when it got to 5200 rpm. My impression when driving the S2k is a perception of sameness whether going 30 mph or 90 mph. That's a sign of a well tuned car. You've got to watch that speedo!

I used to drive a 1995 Integra RS and my first driving impression of the S was it was quicker but not what I was hoping for. I eventually bought the S, drove it for a while then parked it for the winter and drove the Integra for a few months. After driving the S and going back to the Integra what where I felt the greatest difference. I think you'll find if you spend more time in the S, the 'Lude will feel much more sluggish.

I was thinking about that. Unless you almost hit the rev limiter in first the car will be out of VTEC in second. I do think that second and third are the preludes stongest gears. That smooth powerband is very appealing though. Its not too fun when you are going through a corner in an SH and you hit VTEC. Car does some weird stuff sometimes. That smooth powerband makes the car sooo much more predictable.
