Three bars alll the time on MY2002. I recall some long-ago post that pointed out that 4 bars represents a radical increase in temperature over that standard 3 bars. It really is not a true temperature gauge in the ordinary sense of the word. But, after all, this is a digital dashboard. What would be handy is an indicator light showing when it is (or is not) safe to attempt VTEC rpms. My understanding is that you need to wait a couple of minutes beyond 3 bars before VTECing, I personallhy have never attempted VTEC except after 3 bars + a few minutes.
I agree with the indicator. The new M-version of the Z4 has this cool set up that has various indicator lights that wrap around the Tach... and as the car warms up, these indicator lights turn on to let you know which RPM you can hit at that temp of the car. Pretty cool I though.

I would agree that the Z4 M system is better. That's what you get when you pay $55 - $60K for your wheels. We S2000 owners, unfortunately, are more blue collar.....

Looked at a z4 m at my local deal the other day. Very nice, it had a factory carbonfiber dash. It looked as though it was a soft weave stiched right togther with the leather.

Modifry sells a unit to change the temp readout for both Ap1 and 2.. Ap1 definitely needs it the most. With the mod, the bars are changed to 1: 159 and below. 2: 160-174, 3: 175-190.
I had the first one for the AP2. He developed it on my car actually. The temperature spacing is so far apart that your car would have to be on the sun for it to ever read to the top. In other words, if you get anything over 10 bars on the AP2 you're in serious trouble but you wouldn't think so by the scale. Anyway, the ECU mod he makes puts normal operating temp right at the halfway point (10 bars I think). That way it's easy to see if your running normal or not. Also, every bar after that represents 5 degrees so it's easy to track temp changes in hot weather or on the track.

I would think that a blue collar worker would be driving something like a Geo Storm or like a Kia Sophia... lol. Our cars aren't too too expensive, but worth a pretty penny. I'm sure if the S2K had as many luxury options as the BMW's, I'm sure the S2K would easily be in the 50k region.
