Default Technically a MR2?

Okay so I was thinkin about this the other day. Isn't the S2000 "technically" a MR2? Its labeled as a FR class car since the engine is mounted in the front. However, the engine is mounted behind the front axle. And it's a 2 seater. Which, if I'm not mistaken, is the definition of the MR2 (Mid-engine RWD 2 Seater. Some say Midship Runabout 2 str) in Toyota's car. Would I be wrong in saying I have a MR2 again? (I had one of the 1988 SuperCharged ones a few years ago).

Agree? Disagree?

Hmm... No.

So you had a red apple and traded it for a green apple. Yes, you still end up with an apple, but its not the same as what you had. Make any sense?

The third generation RX-7 also had an engine (rotary) which was completely behind the front axle, but I would like to think that the mid engine terminology is reserved for vehicles with the engine behind the driver, but in front of the rear axle. Let's be grateful that the engine placement of the S2000 gives a near perfect 50/50 weight balance. Perhaps we can refer to it as 'enhanced engine placement,' although I regret raising any politically sensitive phraseology in these days when 'enhanced interrogation techniques' have received so much attention.

I think it would be classified as a FMR car (Front-Mid Engine), not MR.

No. The MR2 was a car made by Toyota. The S2000 is not made by Toyota. The S2000 is not an MR2. No more than it's a Porsche 944, Ferrari 599 or Chevrolet Corvette.

I think they define it as having the Center of Gravity behind the front axle, as opposed to having the ENTIRE engine behind the front axle...

the miata's engine is behind the front axle. it's a 2 seater. so the miata is an MR2 as well. so in your eyes, the Miata is an MR2 just as the S2000 is an MR2.

HAHAHAHA Detonator drives a Miata.
