tapping sound after 4500RPM
#2
I've got a tapping kind of sound that seems to come from
the dashboard somewhere. It is most obvious with top up,
while decelerating around the 4500rpm range. I'm taking
the car to the dealer tomorrow to try and have it
diagnosed. I'll let you know what I find out.

I got my car back from my dealer regarding a chattering/tapping type sound around 4500rpm. It
was diagnosed as a "normal" sound and dismissed
(based on a comparison with another S2k that
happened to be in the shop).
A description of the sound I had (hard to do, since
funny noises are so subjective) is basically a
higher-pitched metallic rattling/chatter/tapping
coming from the dash area (maybe more towards the
engine area though) that appeared around the 4000-4500rpm range. This appears most readily if you're in 3rd gear
(with the top up), take the rpm's up to 5000 and let your foot off the gas. The chattering will show up as it falls below 4500 till about 4000 rpm. This was noticable above
the standard engine noise.
I had checked the mirror and the visors, and they weren't
the cause of the problem. I believe it is a clutch/transmission chatter since it goes away if I
push in the clutch while it's chattering. Anyways, hope
this helps ID one of the possible random noises that might
pop up in your S2k.

Gentlemen,
TAP, TAP, TAP is best to be left for the dealership. Not to say you have the #4 Cyl. problem, but that is one of the symptoms. Do a search on "Barry WY", he has compiled some very good information on #4 problem. It is best to have them check it out. I had my baby back in just over a week.
I hope that cars are OK and that is not the case. Good luck.
