Talk about high miles S2000

I've owned 7 Hondas in my lifetime and 2 Toyotas and TOYOTA is without a doubt a more reliable brand. Reason #1: Toyotas don't burn oil Reason #2: Toyotas have non-interference engines...snap your timing belt on a Toyota...no big deal. I've personally seen a Toyota Tacoma 2WD with over 600,000 highway miles on the original engine!

Sorry to burst your bubble about the non interference engines but some of the newer toyota's are now interference engines once they did the VVT-i thing. I do agree about toyota being VERY reliable... I have a 74 corolla original engine and start up on first try! Not bad for a carb'd car.

My 1999 Corolla that I had since new, had an engine failure at 120,000 miles. I spent $800.00 on installing another engine w. 80k miles....only to have THAT enigne die on me at around 136,000. Both engines burned oil and blew up...sold the car as a roller for around 2k...carfax'ed it later and noticed the new owner got it running in a month....I should check it again to see if its still running.
Since I've sold that car, I've noticed quite a few of those MY Corolla's with burnt sooty bumpers..and besides Toyota's being numb and boring cars, I haven't driven or looked at many since.

I don't put new Toyotas or Hondas in the same category of the well made machines of the 80's and 90's.
The Toyota pickups and the Camry's of the 1990's are the TANKS! The 2.2L camry engine and the 2.7L Tacoma engine are the most bulletproof mass produced engines I've every had the pleasure of owning. Now if only Toyota had been wise enough to use adjustable valves instead of stupid shims....

We talk about very long term reliability here. And yes, Honda is #1, because of the machining and manufacturing tolerances of their engines. They have always been industry's benchmark regarding their manufacturing processes.
