o.k., so with a low mileage car i will forget worrying about the mileage and just change it every 6 months or so...
btw, the service manual does not address synthetic.
it does say that for normal conditions change it 7,500 miles or 12 months (page 8-5) for dino oil (and for severe conditions half that)!!

Yes you could do that; however, with an upper tier synthetic you would have NO problem leaving it in for a year or 10,000 miles, whichever comes first. So many people buy in to the whole changing the oil every 3,000 miles bit but with a good synthetic this philosophy is complete overkill. At 3,000 miles a good synthetic is just "getting going" in the whole scheme of things.

There are also sections that discuss oil filters(flow rate, construction quality etc.), fuel additives, and gear fluids. There is a wealth of information there.

just talked to a friend who told me that his bmw tells him when its oil needs to be changed and the dealers wont change it before his indicator light tells him that its time!
seems to me like thats the other extreme...
