synthetic oil... how often do you change it?
have been running synthetic in all of my cars for about a year now and have noticed that i am told to change the oil in each one of them at different intervals-
since i only drive my s about 5,000 miles a year, it doesnt make sense for me to change it based on the number of months, or i would be changing it every 2,500 miles or so!
my understanding is that synthetic does not degrade based on time as much as it does based on mileage (use).
anyone got a good answer to how often synthetic should be changed (months and miles)??
thx

I change mine every 3500 miles. This is per Honda guide lines for Dnyo or Syn oils. It works out to about once every month/month and a half. I would change it every 6 months (2500 miles) if I were you. It is cheap insurance and it will not hurt.

Depends on what you use. If it is a typical "synthetic" from one of the majors, then every 6 months/7500 miles is ideal. That is when they start to turn acidic and deplete their additives.
A first tier synoil like Amsoil, NEO, Motul, Red Line, etc. can easily go 12-15k, or one year. That is what I use and that is what i do.
Always go by whichever comes first - the miles or the time interval.

Just so you understand. Honda clearly states in the owner manual that the change intervals are the same for snythetic and standard oils. If you can not provide the dealer your service records to back up your maintainace schedule, they have the right to void your warrenty and no fix your car.
Do this at your own risk. AMH has been know to void warrenties for far less. This car eats oil and dealers keep a very close eye on this. They will use any vaild reason (some invaild IMHO) to not pay to a repair. Do a search and you will see thread after thread on this exact topic.
Again, Cheap insurance.

well.. considering that Mobil1 is an upper tier Synthetic (yes, it's 100% PAO based) I'd go with what ever makes you feel comfortable, including twice the recommended oil life indicator that the car has built into it...
