AP2 tranny + 4.44 gears would make an awesome combo in an AP1. Woud pull like the 4.77's but would have the long 5th and 6th gear for highway cruising. Cant go wrong.

Actually 1 through 4 ratios are exactly the same ratios. 5 and 6 are a little longer ratio in an ap2. The difference is the reduction gear which influences all of them is a little lower in the ap2. That's what gives you the change. So 5th and 6th remain the same as an ap1 as they are higher in ratio and 1 thru 4 are a little shorter as their ratios didn't change.

And fltsfshr is right contrary to what I said earlier, turns out the first 4 gear ratios are the same but since the last 2 are longer it makes the first 4 a bit shorter.
Its not going to be a huge improvement, but it will definately be noticeable, pair the ap2 tranny with some 4.44's in an AP1 and youll have a really nice setup.

What his percentage is saying is that the additional length of the 5th gear is not enough to overcome the reduction gear change in comparison to an ap1

AP2 vtec kicks in at about 5800ish, so try this. Shift at 8000rpm in your AP1, youll notice that youll fall out of vtec, thats what will happen with the an ap1 tranny in an ap2.
Shifting out of 1st at 8000rpm will put you at 5221rpm in 2nd with either transmission.
Shifting out of 2nd at 8000rpm will put you at 5794rpm in 3rd with either transmission.
Shifting out of 3rd at 8000 rpm will put you at 6271rpm in 4th with either transmission.
Assuming no clutch slip, etc...
Personally, I don't mind having taller 1-4 gearing and slightly closer 4-6 gearing. I'm never seriously launching the car from a dead stop, and at the tracks I've been to the gearing seems pretty well-suited.
