Swapping an AP2 Transmission into an AP1
I've been having problems with 1/2 grind, and every so often it will pop out of 4th gear. I'm at 90k miles, and also on my stock clutch.
Since I'm gonna be replacing the clutch I was thinking about getting my transmission replaced with an AP2. The AP2 transmission has 15k miles, and with labor included would cost me $1150.
Is it worth it?

Yes it is. You'll need to change the flange on the back of the ap2 tranny to the one on your ap1
You'll get a difference of gearing as the reduction gear in an ap2 is a bit deeper and 5th and 6th are a bit longer. It will feel like you dropped in a set of 433 diff gears but you'll keep 5th and 6th long. It's a nice combination.
plus you pick up the better synchros

You'll be very happy with it.
I did it to my prior AP1 soon after the '04MY hit the market. A trainload of S2000 were in a train wreck, I think Kansas, and I bought an AP2 tranny with less than ten miles on it for $800, DIY installed it with a new clutch and lived happily ever after.

What about the other way around? Ap1 transmission in an ap2?
AP2 tranny + 4.44 gears would make an awesome combo in an AP1. Woud pull like the 4.77's but would have the long 5th and 6th gear for highway cruising. Cant go wrong.
