Strange noise from rear after letting go of accelerator
I got my S a couple days back. It's a used MY 00 with 32k miles on it. I just recently noticed that when I'm in either 2,3,4, or 5th gears cruising and then let go of the accelerator, there is a strange zingy noise coming from the rear. I will get it checked out soon, but I was wondering if anyone has any opinions. It doesn't seem to do it when I let go of the accelerator in 6th though. So basically only happens when I'm in gear and not on the gas. Really strange noise and I'm certain it isn't normal. My Prelude never did it. Thanks for any help!

First, your Prelude was NOT a rear wheel drive - BIG difference.
Next- a "zingy" noise, huh? This doesn't mean much over the internet.
More details? What rpm, what road speed, how long does it do it?
If it's an '00, I'll bet it's never had it's diff fluid changed and if it was changed at the dealership, it most likely got the wrong fluid put in it.

Please note: I meant to say "diff" fluid instead of tranny fluid. I've edited it now.
It could be wheel bearings like your friend said. It could also be a lose hub nut. But I suggest changing the diff fluid first as this is relatively cheap and it's probably needed by now. Then see if the noise persists. Bearings will cost you a lot more.
Are you sure it's coming from the rear. MY'00 tended to have the clutch decel "buzz" and the origin of this noise can be misleading.

I know this is a really old thread, but has anyone found the remedy for this? I've posted on this problem before... thanks for your replies but I still couldn't find the source of this sound...
