Strange journey back to a S2000
I started my sports car buying journey with an s2k back in 2002, then sold it to get a 911, then got a not missed RX-8, then back to a secondhand white s2k for a few brief months. Then these two-
I am keeping the atom but I can see myself buying a 2008 S2000 if I can get a good deal on one.
I think that says a hell of a lot about how good the s2k is. I miss a car where you can press a button and the roof goes up, a car that never goes wrong, a car that doesnt attract a bunch of weirdos asking dumb questions, a car I dont have to crawl on my knees to get into, a car that keep it value, and most of all a car my wifey likes

wow, that does mean something. thanks for sharing. can you compare the atom to the s2k please? never driven one.
good that you commented on not just driving but the reality of owning/living with the cars.

Well the Lotus is a lot faster then the s2k and the atom makes the Lotus seem very slow. So the s2k gets beaten totally in terms of speed.
As for handling it follows the same order. The cars have the same ethos but are in a different league.
Where the s2k wins is ease of use on a daily basis. In some ways the Lotus and the Atom are way more fun but being blasted by the wind and constantly hassled by interested people gets old quicker then you might think. With the Lotus you literally have to crawl into it and if you so much as touch any kind of obstacle you will screw up your front clam. Unless your life is your car either one can get on your nerves. Also I remember some great times with the s2000- cruising along with the roof down, stereo blasting, looking at the stars.
In addition, safety wise, driving around in either car is a little scary.
I would not sell the atom to buy the s2k but having an s2k in addition to the atom makes sense to me. A miata is also very appealing to me for the same reasons.

i agree
i love how the s2000's maintenance is such a simplistic approach
i really wanted a 996 911 and go straight pipes for the sound but $150-200 oil changes? no thanks

WOW. great car choices!
i would love to have a Lotus Exige 240R... or a Elise
IMO they look perfectly porportioned and perfect clean body.
and for strict track use.. a Westfield XTR2 would be my choice~
i say keep both and buy a CR... (2008 is the last year of S2k's)
