Thumbs up Strange intake sound

The other day I noticed a strange "whirring" sound coming from my intake box. Everything is stock under the hood. It sounds like I have a dust buster in the airbox. I opened it up and inspected the filter. No holes or tears. The sound only got louder when I opened the lid of the box. It was coming directly from the intake, no holes or tears in the tubing either. Any ideas? Car has 45,500 miles on it.

Do you have a CEL for anything? Mine did this also and I opened the lid and it was loud! Turned out to be my airpump going bad. It was pumping air into the intake tube and causing that noise. Mine did that for about 2 days at random times then I got a CEL and my pump failed and blew the fuse.

I'd check on your air pump like suzuka said. My friend didn't have his hooked up right and he mentioned it sounded weird but I never personally heard it.

Exactly what mine with the pump going bad sounded like. Mine did it off and on randomly over a few days. It even did it once when the car was completely off. Finally got a CEL, pulled code, secondary airpump failure. Looked at the fuse and it was blown. I replaced the fuse and it blew immediately and got the CEL when I started the car again. Replaced the airpump and fuse, no more problems! Im sure pretty soon the pump will crap out and get the CEL, but go ahead and take off the little metal clamp on the hose coming from the airpump going to the intake. Start the car, and while its making that noise, pull that hose off the intake arm and ill bet the sound in the airbox will go away. Since there is so much space in the airbox it echos.

^ Trust me man, its alot louder than it seems in the video. Yes it sounds just like the normal intake noise, but its like 10x's louder than normal. Plus he's been here over 8 years, im sure he knows what an s2000's oem airbox sounds like.

Sounds normal to me too. It's not the airpump for sure... For when you are taking off the the cover, the sound is becoming much louder, so it's for sure the intake filter sound.

It is normal, probably a little higher than other intake filters, but that can be due to dirt sticking on it, and making a narrower path for the air to do that higher pitch... if you clean it well or replace it, I think you will solve it. That's if it's abnormal... but I say don't worry...everything is fine.

Guys, it's not the normal sound. It's a loud humming. Thanks for the suggestions. Not looking forward to paying out the wazoo for an air pump :-/
