Yeah my concern is that. I'm willing to lose a bit low end torque from lack of back pressure if I can gain top end and lose additional weight.

The goal is to gain power, lower weight, keep stock look. Sound (loud) is an unfortunate addition. The stock look would help in warding off the popo.

An invidia would just be loud with no benefits.

The reason for all this is I rather modify the stock exhaust for gains than spend ~$600-$2000 for an exhaust that will give me the same benefits if not less performance even.

It's more to do with the flow speed of the exhaust gases. My car feels noticebly faster at higher rpm when running open header after the testpipe versus with the connected stock exhaust. At the low rpm it's definetly losing a few ponies.

just get a test pipe and leave it.

1. HP gains
2. little less weight
3. not loud

That's what I wanted to hear.

test pipes show proven gains on the dyno. i think your mufflers aren't going to be the issue your putting them up to be.

On a street car, running no mufflers is not the best idea.

1) You lose low end (i've proven that in my own car, although an Integra)
2) You can attract unwanted attention (this didn't happen with my car, cops would look but never got pulled over).
3) It's way too loud. I would let people borrow my car to go get some beer and hear it drive to the gas station, shut off, then start and drive back. The gas station was 3/4-1 mile away.
4) Depending on where you terminate the piping, you'll have one hell of a resonance, about 3k-3.5k in my integra, the car was completely and utterly annoying at that RPM, 4k was nice, so I went 80mph everywhere unless it was a 40mph or lower speed zone.

On the plus side, I did gain 5whp from ~6500 up. And lost about 25whp 4000-5500.

Needless to stay, I am running a regular exhaust now.

I bet you didn't retune/tune the car after changing.

If you guys have ever taken a look at a/f ratio plot before and after converting to something like open header or a larger exhaust or one with less restrictions, you will see how the AFR curve is affected.

These are dyno figures or butt dyno estimates?
