Now a hardtop only works for an S2000, and the S2000 is rare enough, that getting caught is possible. Stealing them to sell is even worse, since it would be tough to find a buyer.

I know this was a problem for Miatas in the SF Bay area...has anyone put any bolts of any sort (theft resistant ones) to attach it? The reason I think a thief might be more discouraged with a hardtop is because it requires breaking the glass, which will set off an alarm. While in some situations this may not prevent it, in a lot of situations a thief will not want to set off a blaring car alarm. With a soft top, a tear will not set off the alarm unless you havec a motion sensor, I think.
