Stock S2k gas mileage exaggerated?

If I remember, the S2000 was one of only two cars ever tested by Consumer Reports that got better than the EPAs numbers.

I'm jealous! I get between 23.5 and 24.2 with a mix of city and highway miles, top down at sea level. On twisty mountain roads I get between 22 and 23.5.

Look at the rpms on the Z06 at highway speeds and this starts to make sense. When you have a car with a lack of torque, you need short gearing. When I look at my tach when I am going 80 on the freeway, I am amazad I get around 25 mpg.
Damn v8s and their torque. I'm jealous of their "overdrive" 6th gear.
I absolutely wish the 6th gear on the s2k was taller. I can't even imagine how anyone would want a more aggressive gearset because I think the stock 4.1 is already short as it is.
In my CRV when I'm at 70 mph the revs are under 3000 rpm. Why can't the s2k be like that? I wouldn't mind having to downshift to 5th all the time if I needed some quick power.
