Stock clutch seems to be going out.
Hi Everyone!
Well, after 19k miles, it seems that my stock clutch is giving out.
Normal launch from start seems ok; but when accelerating at high RPM's up a slight incline, it seems to start slipping.
Questions...
Has anyone gotten their clutch replaced by Honda under warranty?
If I had to pay for a new clutch job, is it worth the $$$ to go aftermarket?
If so, which is best overall for daily spirited driving?
Any warnings about going aftermarket clutches? (e.g. more strain on diff, harder pedal feel, etc)
Going through the clutch work, should I go with aftermarket flywheel?
If so, which is best?
Is it worth the $$$?
Any side effects? (e.g. unstable idle, more strain on clutch, etc)
Thanks in advance for any input!
Steve

steve - have you done the TSB's to replace the clutch? if you haven't you MIGHT be able to get them to swap the clutch with an aftermarket one - one that you supply, along with a flywheel.
I can give you a few options to go by for the clutch/pp and flywheel. just give me a ring, and best of all - no CA sales tax! =D

19000 miles ??? God this clutch is weak !!! Oh man...Honda will not pay for the clutch replacement so forget this option.
I'll strongly suggest you to go with an after market one ( They are stronger ) If you don't go at the track you will probably want the reworked oem one that star clutch does.
Or if you want a more spirited drive you can go with the stage 3 ( kevlar ) witch i have.
Clutch master have something interesting too !
And since you are there why not going with the comptech chomoly flywheel ???
You will have a better response from the engine and a slight acceleration improvement.

Mine started bugging me right about the same time. If you have the "deceleration buzz" you CAN get them to replace the clutch under warranty...the TSB applies to '00 and '01 models. However, when they replace the clutch, they will likely want to replace the pressure plate and throwout bearing as well, and those parts will NOT be covered under warranty. I went in for the TSB and came out $400 poorer . Ah well, at least they didn't charge me for labor.

there is also any theory going on around here.
"Honda design the clutch to be the weakest part of the drivetrain. So clutch will become a wear and tear item, instead of wearing out you rear end and all ..."
