Default Steering Wheel Alignment

Had the TSB done on my clutch but the steering wheel is set a little to the left. It's very annoying when I have both hands on the steering wheel.

I know that the subframe is involved but is there anyone who's done this on their own? I've gone back to the dealer and they adjusted it a tiny bit, but it's still not straight. I'd do the job myself if I knew what bolts were involved and what I needed to move.

Any help would be appreciated (pics helps too!).

I don't know how your steering wheel got out of alignment, and if there is some underlying cause, you should fix that (any pull to one side?). But to just align the wheel, simply lengthen one tie rod and shorten the other by the same amount.

The subframe of the car needs to be unbolted in order to perform the TSB on the clutch, and if the shop didn't align the subframe exactly to where it was, the steering wheel will be tilted either to the left or the right a little.

I took the car in for an alignment and it's all good. The car doesn't pull either way, but it's very annoying that the car's steering wheel tilts towards 11 o-clock when driving straight.

You can get your dealership to remove your steering wheel and realign that position. That should fix your problem.

You can do this, but why not fix it the way dhayner suggests, and the way the alignment shop should have corrected it? Shorten one tie rod and lengthen the other when the car is on the rack to make sure that you don't change toe.

BTW, a thorough mechanic should have performed this adjustment after the sub-frame work. But, are you sure that the subframe was unbolted for the clutch work?

the steering column/shaft ahs to be unbolted, and if they don't mark it when they take it off, it won't be put back on aligned properly. same thing happened to me. take it back, they can take off the steering wheel and put it back on a couple of splines over on the shaftit goes onto and line it up straight.

Looks like I'm not the only one with the same idea.

I'm very sure that the tech unbolted the subframe. He showed me the bolt since I could see where it was before, however even with tweaking the subframe, the result is the same 11 o'clock position steering wheel while driving straight.

I guess it's easier to have the tie-rods adjusted to correct this problem without messing up the toe than anything.
