If you're "building my s2000 performance totaly [SIC] from spoon" then what's the AEM CAI doing under the hood?

i bought it right when i got the car and it works pretty good so i don't see the reason to spend another $400 for the spoon airduct but everything else is going to be spoon.

i would prefer spoon of course over anything. i have talked to someone who is very knowlegdeable and they also said it will work but it will be a very tight fit. which is fine to me i'm not worried about putting anything under it. but i would still like to talk to someone who has done this or tried.

Spoon won't fit. Can it be made to fit - sort of. I had it and I had to depress the CAI where it met the intake manifold. There was about a 1/8-1/4" displacement. I drove around with it for 2 days. When idling at a light it felt like the car was struggling to get air and wanted to stall. At driving speeds had no problem. Also, shifts during driving and will scratch you AEM CAI. I read somewhere on the board where Spoon was coming out with a new design to fit the AEM on the S2000 - not sure if this was fact or fiction.

THERE IS A WAY!
I have the Spoon STB and the INJEN intake, which should be the same as the AEM intake in the area of concern. Even if you get the STB on over the intake, that doesn't mean you're good to go. When you turn the engine on and give it some gas, the engine twists in its mounts, and the intake lifts slightly, causing it to hit the STB, slowly wearing away a little hole on the intake.
The solution I came up with was to add a couple of washers at each bolt under the STB, effectively raising it about 1/4". This gave me enough clearance between the STB and intake so they don't hit each other during normal driving. I've had this setup for 4 months without a problem.
