speedometer accuracy?

Well when I got pulled over one time, the speedometer read 91 MPH, however the CHP woman clocked me at 88 mph.

A well-timed post, as I took a trip down to Los Angeles and back. I had my GPS unit with me for the specific purpose of checking the speedometer calibration.
Across the range of speed (30-110), my speedometer was between 3 and 4 MPH faster than the actual speed of the vehicle. I thought there would be a percentage variance, but was very surprised to find it was consistent.
